On joining the school, students are placed in a tutor group. The tutor will usually stay with the group until the end of year 11. During the years spent at Phoenix High School, a very positive relationship develops between student and tutor. Tutors monitor overall progress and provide advice when necessary. Tutors inspect the Student and Parent Handbook regulary and follow up any problems that arise.
Heads of Learning and tutors work closely and keep students records, follow up reports on progress, check assessments and deal with most disciplinary matters. If problems at home affect a students life at school, they are a school concern. Parents and carers are asked to keep tutors fully informed of any circumstances that might worry their child unduly.
